How is payback time calculated?
Your extra Water per click (new pump minus current pump) earns back the upgrade cost. Payback clicks = cost ÷ extra per click. At 5 clicks/second, a 300-Water Lucky Clover upgrade from Water Pump Plus pays back in seconds — a Dianeti jump takes far longer by design.
Should I always buy the upgrade as soon as I can afford it?
In this game, usually yes — community guides recommend buying the next affordable pump rather than hoarding Water, because pumps are the biggest power multiplier. The calculator's payback number tells you how quickly each jump recovers its cost so you can judge big jumps yourself.
Why do some pumps show missing values?
