A mutation multiplies what a fish sells for — and what it earns in your aquarium. Four mutations are documented: Gold ×2, Diamond ×5, Venom ×10, Hole ×20. The rarest, Hole ×20, is the current prize: watch for Black Hole weather and sweep spawn points when it hits.

Mutation mechanics, per sources
- A mutated fish is worth its base value × the mutation multiplier when sold, and earns the same multiple in the aquarium.
- A fish carries at most one mutation — mutations do not stack.
- Mutations apply at spawn only: you can't mutate a fish you already own.
- World fish despawn on a timer, so grab mutated fish when you see them.
- No mutation has been shown to affect Water per click — they are fish-value multipliers.

What is the best mutation in +1 Drain Water Per Click?
Hole is the strongest known mutation: it multiplies a fish's value ×20. Venom (×10), Diamond (×5) and Gold (×2) follow. Values are player-measured rather than official stats, but three independent guides agree on them.
How do fish get mutations?
Mutations spawn naturally on fish in any area — Gold and Diamond are relatively common, Venom and Hole are rare spawns. A fish carries at most one mutation, and it's fixed at spawn: an already-caught fish never mutates later.
What does the weather do to mutations?
Poison weather raises Venom spawn chance by roughly +10% and Black Hole weather does the same for Hole spawns, each for about 4 minutes. One guide reports Black Hole weather fires about twice an hour — but don't treat that as a guaranteed schedule. Weather only affects newly spawning fish.
Do mutations affect Water per click?
No evidence supports that. Mutations multiply the fish's sell value and its aquarium earnings — there's no indication they change your click power. Pumps and pets do that.
